近事

Those who attend on and serve the (sa) triratna, the近事男 (sa) upāsaka, male servant or disciple, and近事女 (sa) upāsikā, female servant or disciple, i.e. laymen or women who undertake to obey the five commandments. 近住 Laymen or women who remain at home and observe the eight commandments, i.e. the近事律儀.
